‘My Home’ Project Becomes A Reality

Michelle Blakeley’s amazing ‘My Home’ dream, to build 18 homes in Congdon Street, North Fremantle for homeless women, has today become a reality.

This morning a gigantic crane swung the first structural wall panels of the new homes into place.

Here’s some of the action!

We have brought you progress reports on the My Home project over the past couple years, as well as a fascinating podcast interview with Michelle Blakeley in which she explained how she came to envisage the project and then deal with the challenges in bringing it to life.

Former Fremantle Mayor, Dr Brad Pettitt MLC, a strong supporter of the project when Mayor, was on site this morning to congratulate Michelle on today’s milestone step in the project.

The project would not have come to fruition but for the initiative of the PTA – the Public Transport Authority, in making the site available for redevelopment, and the selfless commitment of a range of private sector organisations – especially Offsite Constructions in prefabricating the homes and Highbury Homes for finishing their building. The My Home project in North Fremantle will now be managed by St Pat’s Freo.

Here’s a great shot of all concerned at this morning’s milestone event.

Michelle Blakeley kindly took few minutes to explain to our editor, Michael Barker, in the podcast interview below, just what the My Home project means and what lies ahead for the My Home project beyond Fremantle.
