Just announced – a prime parcel of commercial land on Rottnest Island is being offered for redevelopment through an Expression of Interest (EOI).
The 11,000m2 site at 1 Brand Way in the Settlement is being offered for a range of uses including recreation and leisure, food and beverage or accommodation.
Part of the site currently accommodates Rottnest’s Family Fun Park and Picture Hall facilities which include a movie hall, mini golf and arcade games. The facilities are leased until 31 October 2023. Respondents will have the option to take up all or part of the proposed lease area.
Another EOI for new Island businesses which closed in June has resulted in a number of new proposals under consideration by RIA for commencement in the summer 2022-23, including a new retail offering at the iconic Salt Store building.
More than $100 million has been invested or committed in recent years for key infrastructure and development of visitor amenities on Wadjemup including for roads, jetties, and water and energy networks.
Tourism Minister Roger Cook, in announcing this EOI, said:
“Rottnest Island is one of the jewels in the crown of Western Australia’s tourism experience.
“We want to continue to develop the facilities on the island to improve the visitor experience while always being mindful of the environmental and cultural considerations.
“The end of the lease of the family fun park offers a great opportunity for a proponent to deliver a new tourism offering in partnership with Rottnest Island Authority.
“RIA will consider offerings that complement the natural features of the Island’s land, sea and airspaces, as well as activities that have potential to activate indoor and outdoor spaces in new and exciting ways.”
Further information on the EOI for 1 Brand Way is available from the Rottnest Island Authority. The EOI is available on the Tenders WA website and will close at 2:30pm AWST on 20 September 2022.
