The proponent of the Tavern development at 47 Pakenham Street, Fremantle, in Fremantle’s historic West End, has withdrawn its DA to the City of Fremantle.
Mr Mario Sequeira of Hospitality Total Services confirmed today to Fremantle Shipping News that the proponent, after careful consideration including of considerable negative local community feedback, has decided not to proceed further with the Pakenham Street proposal.
No doubt the West End community will be celebrating quietly on learning of this good news.
In many ways, the Tavern proposal has served the useful purpose of focussing attention on just what sort of development may be considered appropriate in the West End.
Shipping News readers will be familiar with the community concerns expressed in the Opinion Piece by Brian Stoddart that we posted when the proposal first came to light.
As to whether the proponent may pursue a similar development elsewhere in Fremantle, Mr Sequeira was guarded in his response.
Watch this space.
