The Chimera
Freo Today. 16 April 2026. You’ve probably wandered passed this fearsome looking creature in Pioneer Park and scratched your head as to just what it is or had a Freo visitor ask you what it’s all about and done the same!
Well, here’s a reminder – as explained on the plaque on the ground right in front of the creature.
Title: Chimera, 2016
Cast bronze, stones, marble and stainless steel.
Artist: Susan Flavell.
Born 1964 London, England: lives Hamilton Hill, WA.
In Greek mythology, a Chimera is a creature with the head of a lion, the body of a goat, and the tail of a snake. A modern Chimera has come to symbolise an unreal creature of the imagination, a hybrid made of many parts.
