Say hello to Dwert!

Freo Today. 24 February 2025. If you’ve wandered along VQ – Victoria Quay – at Fremantle’s inner harbour lately, especially down the western end near the WA Maritime Museum, you will likely have run into this mutt and wondered as you wandered just what it is all about. Well, here’s the answer! Its name is Dwert (dwert and dwerda are Nongar words for dingo). It’s a central piece of Fremantle Ports’ VQ place improvements, including seating, shade structures, bike racks, bins, a water fountain and feature lighting on the adjacent workshop sheds. The Dwert is the work of Bassendean sculptor Martin Jaine. The connection is nearby Cantonment Hill (Dwerda Weelardinup), the home of the dingo spirit. So, call by VQ and say hello to Dwert. You can’t miss it!
