Last September, it was announced that The Piazza at 36 South Terrace, Fremantle, had sold for $12.5M, with Yolk Piazza 21 Pty Ltd transferring the landmark site to a private buyer. Well, since then, things have been happening, as Jean Hudson reports.
Fremantle’s sad and tired-looking The Piazza has been revitalised and is quickly becoming a vibrant street art hub, showcasing the talents of international and local artists – adding a creative flair to the City’s urban landscape.

The Piazza’s new owner, Bronwyn Owen, is spending money on making it look attractive, with shop fronts painted, new plants and other improvements, and the fountain working again. And as she’d hope, new businesses are moving in.

The Fairy Shop, the favourite shop in Freo for little girls is still there and here’s Fairy Sophie to prove it!

From two new striking murals and a quirky Big Trash Animals sculpture, the public art in the piazza celebrates the city’s eclectic spirit.
There’s a new cat in town. The talented artist artbyrow created this 2-story high amazing cat mural a few months ago.

Recently, as reported in our Trash Art Comes To Freo, the Portuguese artist Bordalo II created Quokka and Baby out of recycled materials.

Jerone Davenport aka Ketones has recently moved into the area and created a new mural in the laneway at the eastern side of Timezone leading into The Piazza.
It sends a message about caring for the environment during our time on earth and preserving native plants and animals. It’s a beautiful, detailed work with a girl living in an oxygen bubble saving plants.

And just beneath this mural, you’ll find another piece of art, inside a glass panel – Dhufish, by local artist Neil Kidd. Neil collects rubbish on Bathers Beach most mornings, and uses some of it for his art. Dhufish is made from bits of aluminum cans. Love it!

Check it all out!
