Fremantle Ports is joining in the nation-wide celebrations of the world’s oldest living culture with the launch of a new Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan or RAP during NAIDOC Week at events in Fremantle and Kwinana.
At Victoria Quay, Fremantle Ports has incorporated elements of the Noongar culture and heritage into public art landscape. A mural depicting the Waugal can be found at the Western Australia Maritime Museum Forecourt, along with a sculpture of the Dwerda (Dingo Spirit) and artwork representing the six Noongar Seasons.
This year’s NAIDOC Week theme is ‘the next generation, strength, vision and legacy’. It highlights the role of emerging First Nations leaders and how we can all work toward better outcomes for Aboriginal people.
Fremantle Ports Acting CEO, David Good, welcomed NAIDOC Week as an important time to celebrate and acknowledge the deep connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have to their land, history, culture and achievement.

“We encourage our own employees, customers and partners to be involved in Australia’s important reconciliation journey. Our new Innovate RAP builds on achievements in the Reflect RAP and outlines practical actions by Fremantle Ports to strengthen relationships with First Nations communities. It focuses on increasing our Aboriginal employment opportunities and expanding procurement from Aboriginal-owned businesses,” he said.
As part of its NAIDOC Week activities, Fremantle Ports is also sponsoring the inter-agency NAIDOC Week Market in partnership with the Department of Energy and Economic Diversification. The market, to be held on Wednesday 9 July from 10:30am to 1:30pm at the WA Museum Boola Bardip, supports Aboriginal economic participation by providing a platform for Aboriginal businesses to showcase their talents.
In May, Fremantle Ports hosted WA’s National Reconciliation Week breakfast at the Fremantle Passenger Terminal, attended by 1000 people
