Seafarers are crucial to global trade, transporting over 80 per cent of the world’s goods by sea. The Port of Fremantle receives 1500 ships each year, hosting more than 33,000 crew.
Ships’ crew spend many days at sea away from their homes and loved ones and in sometimes challenging conditions. Freo Ports acknowledged the work of the Flying Angel Club, Fremantle (Mission to Seafarers) and the Stella Maris Seafarers’ Centre, Fremantle in supporting our seafarers while they are in port.
The largest number of seafarers are from the Philippines, the Russian Federation, Indonesia, China, and India.
Did you know that there are more than 1.9 million seafarers serving on internationally trading merchant ships?
