“Unfiltered” by DADAA

A beautiful night to launch a podcast on Friday 9 May 2025.

DADAA knows how to throw a good party, rolling out the red carpet and smart dress under the bougainvillea in the courtyard. Our setting is the stunning 1850s Victorian Tudor former boy’s school in Fremantle, occupied by the DADAA crew dedicated to supporting people with disability or disadvantage in their artistic pursuits.

They dream big, with our local podcasters telling us on the night of their aims to get into voice acting, acting, animation, and more some day.

Tonight’s celebration announced the launch of “Unfiltered”, described by DADAA as:

“Unfiltered is a podcast program for DADAA participants with intellectual disability or neurodiversity. Participants learn all the basics of podcasting and produce their own podcasts covering topics and stories that are important to them.

Themes vary from life passions like travel and filmmaking to more complex issues like family dynamics and growing up as a first generation Australian. The open format allows for a range of possibilities, including interviews, poetry or both fiction and non-fiction stories.”

Podcasts are produced weekly across their Fremantle, Midland, and Lancelin hubs, with support from the Department of Communities.

Attendees merrily ate, drank, and listened to speeches by DADAA, local legend and Aboriginal Engagement Officer Brendan from the City of Fremantle, and podcaster Phoebe.

Afterwards, we were all invited to listen to two of the podcasts (one a heartwarming Nyoongar artist interview and the other a very witty interview with a seagull) and a panel Q&A.

Actually, quite fancy the sound of a few of the podcasts, especially the one on alternative films. Looking forward to giving them a listen.

Thanks for having me there and bravo to DADAA!
