At the nearly finally concluded WA State elections the Greens WA party is certain to secure 4 seats in the upper house – the Legislative Council – of the State Parliament.
Given that the WA Labor party, which controls the lower house, the Legislative Assembly, and holds Government probably has 16 of the 37 upper house seats, and so doesn’t control a majority in that house, it will need the support of at least another 3 or even 4 other upper house members to push legislation through the house and into law.
Enter the Greens WA!
With their 4 votes they can assure the safe passage of the WA Labor Government’s legislation. Without them the Government will need to seek the support of: their mortal political foes the Liberal Party, who’ll probably have 11 upper house members; or the National Party, who have 2 members; or a combo of single, minor party members, including the Christian Party, One Nation and Legalise Cannabis Party. Another seat is up for grabs.
