Topping the success of IOTA21 was always going to be a challenge, but my goodness, IOTA24 is something to behold.
As we’ve reported previously , IOTA – the Indian Ocean Craft Triennial – is a not-for-profit organisation based in Perth/Boorloo, which was set up in response to the phenomenal success of the inaugural event in 2021. IOTA24 is proudly supported by major partners: Lotterywest, WA Department of Local Government, Sport & Cultural Industries and Founding Partner Curtin University. The exciting event will run for 3 months, from August – October 2024 with 32 lead artists and over 70 exhibitions in a community-led festival program responding to the theme of ‘Codes in Parallel’, reflecting on craft as a universal language. Over 300 WA craftspeople from Esperance to Broome have been planning for the event for 2 years. There will be exhibitions at Fremantle Arts Centre, John Curtin Gallery, Yagan Mia Wireless Hill Park and Holmes a Court Gallery. Rural exhibitions will take place in Albany, Bunbury, Rockingham, Mandurah and Margaret River, to mention a few. The event is expected to attract 180,000 visitors over the 3-month period.
Well, the Fremantle Arts Centre’s contribution to IOTA24 is now awaiting your visit. The FAC part of the exhibition opened Friday night to great acclaim. Fremantle Shipping News was honoured to enjoy a preview of the exhibition and to meet many of the wonderful artists whose craftworks feature in it.
We have to tell you that FAC has done itself proud in the presentation of the beautiful and intriguing works to be seen in the exhibition. The galleries have been freshly prepared. Every curatorial care has been taken to show artists’ works to the best effect. The outcome is quite stunning.
Here are the artists whose works you find at the FAC exhibition –
And here’s a gallery of some of the works in the exhibition.
And another.
And yet another!
Get along soon. You won’t be disappointed. Take the family!
