No Camping Or Sleeping Overnight In Vehicles Or Parking For More Than 4 Hours At South Beach

South Beach always gets Freo folk chatting.

Everyone has an opinion about what’s going on and what should be ok and what shouldn’t be.

Long term vehicle parking and overnight camping and sleeping in vehicles is not everyone’s cup of tea.

So the Freo Council has bitten a bullet.

The latest move on this front is the erection of signage by City of Fremantle notifying that car parking at South Beach, South Fremantle, is now limited to 4 hours.

The signage also confirms that camping and sleeping in vehicles overnight is banned.

A recent Facebook advice from City of Freo states –

PARKING NOTICE | Please be aware that South Beach carpark has a new four-hour time limit in place for the entire parking lot.

The City hopes this implementation will help prevent illegal camping and free up more car bays for people to enjoy the beautiful beach.

The City has clarified that a vehicle cannot return to a restricted parking area for at least two hours.

The use of the carpark as a virtual RV camping area has been a long running issue. Not everyone agrees wih this latest move, it seems, judging by responses found on Facebook to the City of Freo advice.

Here are some of the responses. Quite thoughtful really.

Will the 4 hour parking limit with a 2 hour return rule make a big difference?

How strenuously will the new rules be enforced?

It’ll be interesting to see how things look at the carpark in a month or so.
