RV Investigator back in Freo!
Freo Today. 20 April 2026.
The RV Investigator is Australia’s flagship research vessel supporting a wide range of marine research, from the Antarctic ice-edge to the equator. It is operated by the Marine National Facility on behalf of the nation.
She has the capacity to undertake in-depth oceanographic, biological and geoscience research, and is the first Australian vessel equipped with dedicated atmospheric laboratories. These world-class atmospheric facilities host a suite of instrumentation measuring meteorological packages, greenhouse gases, radon, ozone, and a range of aerosol parameters.
Investigator recently completed a voyage from Hobart and is scheduled to return to Hobart soon. Here she is in Fremantle now. Nice pic by Jean Hudson.
Recent tracking of her movements suggests Investigator has also just been in our north west.
Investigator is no stranger to Freo. Here’s Jean Hudson’s story on her from 3 years ago with lots of facts and figures about her!
