Progress C – a smaller container ship

FREO TODAY

Freo Today. 24 July 2023. Here’s the PROGRESS C container ship, in from Singapore and soon to return. She was built in 1998 by Hyundai Heavy Industries Co in South Korea and currently sails under the flag of Panama. Given her age – 25 years – it’s not surprising to discover she has sailed under a number of other names over the years, including P I4, PRL, P PO, PVC C, PUNGO WARRIOR, HYUNDAI PROGRESS, ZHIYUAN818 and WAN HAI 252. Progress C is operated by Danaos Shipping Co which, at the moment, manages 66 container vessels around the globe with container capacities ranging from 2,200 TEU to 13,100 TEU. Progress C’s container capacity is around 2,200 TEU which makes her one of the smaller ships in the Danaos fleet. Her smaller size is emphasised when you compare her to the Sydney Express who was in Port last week. Sydney Express is 300 metres long with a beam of 48.

Progress C’s length overall is around 182 metres and her beam 30.
