A Mural That Tells A Story
Freo Today. 30 November 2025. A Mural That Tells A Story. We spotted this mural on the Saferight Sea Survival Training Centre at 20 Mews Road, South Freo, just the other day. Wondering what the story behind it might be our Editor, Michael Barker, finished up having a long chat with Saferight founder and CEO Mack McCormack who explained that Saferight’s foundations are deeply tied to Australia’s defence community and that as a veteran-founded organisation, the enterprise carries with it the values of service, courage and mateship every day. He said that this year, Saferight has taken an important step to honour one of those who paid the ultimate price in service to Australia: David O’Callaghan, a member of the Special Air Service Regiment (SAS) who lost his life during a maritime counter-terrorism exercise in 1982. The new Sea Survival Training Centre at 20 Mews Road will be named in David’s honour and stand as a lasting tribute to his legacy. If you’d like to learn more about out David O’Callaghan look here.
