With the closure of the Old Traffic Bridge just after Christmas this year, and the proposed traffic re-routing with the closure of Canning Highway entries to Stirling Highway, just south of Stirling Bridge, kicking in from the beginning of 2026, perhaps an answer to easily getting Freo folk from Freo to North Freo and the northern beaches, and back, is the installation of a new Monorail above the existing Freo-Perth train line.
Or the Monorail could use the existing line if the two train schedules can be safely coordinated.
The idea, however, is for the Monorail to be pretty much on a non-stop loop. So the two level train proposal is probably the way to go.
We think the Monorail should have its own simple and memorable name, perhaps ‘Rita’.
We are expecting recently re-elected Freo State MP Simone McGurk and Freo Federal MP Josh Wilson will trip over each other in their rush to get behind the idea. After all, who wouldn’t?
