Have you always had a yearning to find out something about our port, how it works, or what Fremantle Ports is planning or doing? Well, now’s your chance to scratch that itch!
There are four great opportunities at Maritime Day this Saturday for you to get answers direct from Fremantle Ports’ two key people – CEO Jodie Ransom and Harbour Master Captain Savio Fernandes. These two folks are at the heart of the organisation. Each will do two chat sessions on the Fremantle Passenger Terminal balcony- one of the best views of the port – at the times listed below.
Jodie is the head of the organisation, with a long career in the maritime industry. Before becoming CEO she was the port’s General Manager Operations, having come to Fremantle Ports from international towage giant Svitzer, where she was General Manager (West) in Australia. Before that, she was with CBH and several shipping logistics organisations. Jodie’s career start was as a navigation officer with BHP Transport, so it is a bonus that Jodie has strong maritime credentials, including seagoing experience.
Before joining Fremantle Ports in 2021, Savio was Manager Ship Vetting and Quality for Fortescue Metals Group, Deputy Harbour Master for Pilbara Ports and worked in Europe in marine vetting. He was Master on oil and chemical tankers, with experience in ice-class oil tankers in northern Europe. Savio’s daily routine includes planning and monitoring shipping schedules, ensuring safe ship movements for vessels and pilots and liaising with the industry on all manner of maritime issues affecting the port. He has in the past two years played a leading role in a national debate aimed at further improving safe ship transfers for pilots, as well as championing welfare issues for visiting seafarers. The role of Harbour Master is certainly an extremely busy one!
So, start thinking about what you’d like to know, then come down to the Fremantle Passenger Terminal on Saturday to meet them. Both are super-friendly and keen to meet you.
Jodie will be doing her Q and A sessions on the balcony, at:
10.15am
10.40am
Savio will be doing his Q and A sessions on the balcony, at:
11.50am
1.00pm
Btw, there will be more than 80 exhibitions at Maritime Day, so if there’s something you want to find out, it’s the place to be. For those led by their tummies, coffee, ice cream and food will be available throughout the day!
And don’t forget, the MV BESANT will anchor Maritime Day!
Parking at the terminal free, though it will be busy!
You can also catch the free shuttle bus to and from E Shed on the half-hour all day.
Should be fun!
