Malcolm Hundley’s latest exhibition of paintings opens at Earlywork Gallery in South Fremantle on 12 September.
Observation of the built environment is Malcolm’s inspiration and this exhibition, ‘Painting the Town’, examines the streets and buildings of the Fremantle area, where Malcolm has lived since his student days in the mid-1970s.
Many of the paintings are of subjects many people would immediately recognise. However, Malcolm also has an eye for the unusual, less familiar and possibly humorous subject.
“I know that viewers of my paintings are often prompted to give consideration to the familiar places in their environment, as well as the views people may ordinarily see as they drive or walk past without otherwise giving a second thought”, he comments.
Of the 45 paintings on show, twelve are of the buildings and grounds of East Fremantle Oval before the recent redevelopment.
Other paintings include images of Fremantle Port, North Fremantle and Fremantle town.

“Painting the Town” opens at Earlywork Gallery, 9/330 South Terrace, South Fremantle on 12 September and will be open daily 10am to 4 pm until Sunday 22 September.
