The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, based in Bibra Lake near Fremantle, has just announced a special celebration of Australia Day on 26 January 2024, which this year falls in a Friday, a holy day in Islam.
The community has extended a warm invitation to members of the public to join in the festivities at its Bibra Lake Nasir Mosque and witness a unique blend of national pride and religious observance.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a dynamic, fast-growing international revival movement within Islam. Founded in 1889, the Community spans over 200 countries with membership exceeding tens of millions. Its current leader is His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Fifth Khalifa (Caliph) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. The Community is recognised for its commitment to peace, justice, and the betterment of humanity.
This year’s Australia Day celebration is particularly poignant for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. Imam Wadood Janud said that “Australia Day is a momentous occasion for us. It symbolises the freedom and opportunities that our community, persecuted in Pakistan, has found in this great nation. It’s a day to give back to the community that has embraced us, a day of gratitude and unity.”
The event will showcase the community’s commitment to Australian values and its dedication to interfaith harmony and social welfare. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has explained that the Australia Day celebration is not just a reflection of its gratitude to Australia but also an opportunity to foster a deeper understanding of Islamic teachings and practices, particularly the significance of Friday as a holy day in Islam.
