Back in Her Element

Sascha Ion returns with a new trio and recording

It has been a while since Sascha Ion has graced the stages of Western Australia with any kind of regularity. But that doesn’t mean the acclaimed singer-songwriter hasn’t been keeping herself musically occupied …

A local favorite through bands such as Spank and One Horse Town, in the late 2000s Sascha relocated to Melbourne where she formed Voodoo Economic. That was followed by a stint with trans-Tasman trio Red Dirt Radio, before the WAM Award-winning artist packed up her guitars and headed west across the Nullabor.

Since returning home, Sascha has been road testing a new trio – Sascha Ion and the Elements. With Liam Coffey on bass and Andrew Lippiatt on drums, the ensemble is about to release its debut recording, Creature. The five-track EP is arguably Sascha’s finest recording yet, brimming with soon-to-be classics like the sublimely beguiling “Postwoman” and luminous “Nomad.”

The first single is the EP’s title track, “Creature,” its release accompanied by an elegant video from local photographer and filmmaker, Elliot Ramsay.

To celebrate the release of the much anticipated new recording, Sascha Ion and the Elements would love for you to join them at Clancy’s Fish Pub Fremantle on Friday, 1 September. The night will serve as the official EP launch and gets underway at 8 pm.

Joining Sascha et al on the bill will be Catherine Traicos & the Unrequited along with the Beautiful Losers, performing in duo mode.

Tickets are on sale now right here.
