Chris Sutherland, with qualifications in Civil Engineering from UWA in the mid 80s, in Advanced Management from Harvard Business School in 2001, who is about to end a term as a Director of Southern Ports Authority, and has been a non-executive Director of the Fremantle Dockers since November 2021, has just been appointed chair of Fremantle Port Authority replacing Ross Love whose three year term ends soon.
Ports Minister Rita Saffioti has today announced the appointment of Mr Sutherland effective as of 1 January 2023.
Mr Sutherland will serve an initial two-year term.
Ms Saffioti congratulated Mr Sutherland on his appointment as Chair of the Fremantle Port Authority, noting he has held numerous executive and non-executive leadership positions, and brings strong business acumen to the role, having previously served as the Managing Director and Group CEO of Programmed.
She added that she looks forward to working closely with the new Chair ‘as we embark on significant and transformational projects like Westport and Future of Fremantle’.
The Minister also thanked outgoing Chair, Ross Love for his three years as Chair of the Fremantle Port Authority.
“Ross has provided excellent leadership in the role, and I wish him well for the future”, she said.
For 20 years prior to his appointment as a Director of Southern Ports Authority 18 months ago, Chris Sutherland was in various engineering and management roles with leading engineering companies including Clough and WorleyParsons. He was appointed Managing Director and Group CEO of Programmed from January 2008 until his retirement September 2019. Programmed is a major staffing, maintenance and facility management company with over 25,000 employees and was listed on the ASX until October 2017 when it was acquired for an enterprise value of $1 billion.
At the time of his appointment to Southern Ports Authority, Mr Sutherland was a non-executive Director of Matrix Engineering & Composites Ltd, and non-executive Chairman of Copper Search Ltd (mineral exploration), Remsense Technology Ltd (remote imaging and virtual technology) and Stelect Pty Ltd (medical device).
Plainly Mr Sutherland brings a wealth of experience to his new position as Chair of Fremantle Port Authority.
