In his last After the Game with Gerry ‘Gero’ Robertson, our esteemed footy scribe reported on last Saturday night’s big finals win under the banner heading – ‘DAVE MUNDY LIVES’.
Footy scribes, I’ve found, are a bit like that – they tend to state the obvious. ‘The bounce of the oval shaped Sherrin tended to be unpredictable.’ Or, ‘If Fyfy had kicked straight, he’d have had a really good night’. Or, ‘The players found the wet, slippery footy hard to mark’. Or, ‘The big men don’t get any smaller as the game goes on.’ Or, more egregiously, ‘The umpires don’t always get it right’.
But it’s true, Dave Mundy lives, and if he can can see Freo through this big one tonight against the Pies, he will keep on living!
The late mail from Gero – who’s at the G for the big game – is that –
‘At the G, it’s cold and cold and cold and getting colder, but Freo looked good during the warm-up. Dave was smiling and Shooter had an encouraging snarl about him. Darc looked a tad serious but the ‘brothers by different mothers’ looked ready to roll. And the General, Alex Pearce, was standing tall pointing in many different directions at once – apparently a new warm-up routine.’
Gero also said ‘Aishy was in long sleeves, so you can expect an exceptional game from him’.
‘Late tip from the rooms’, Gero claimed but I suspect he just concocted, is that ‘Banners will come on halfway through the last quarter and kick 3 clinchers’.
Enough, enough.
Go Freo!
Oh, nearly forgot, here are the rest of the pics Gero just sent through.
