Objet d’art in Malta!

Freo Today. 26 July 2026. As regular FSN readers including of The Weekly Edition of FSN know, our Shipping & Sailing Editor Jean Hudson is currently having fun in Malta. Her pic of the local ferry was a beauty. And now she invited us all to meet Valetta’s giraffe crane, stretching its neck over the Grand Harbour like it’s been drinking from the Mediterranean for centuries. The 120 metre high crane took on a zoomorphic identity during Valetta’s Visual Arts Exhibition in 2018, marking Malta’s link to the African continent positioned, as it is, between Europe and Africa. Jean adds: ‘our Freo cranes could also become fabulous objet d’art’. Pic by Jean Hudson – ‘lover of travel, art, boats and cranes’!
