It’s here, the new Ferris wheel – too ‘psychedelic’?

FREO TODAY

Freo Today. 28 October 2024. So, the Esplanade has finally got its new Ferris wheel. Have you seen it yet? What do you think? It seems final judgment should be withheld until you’ve seen the wheel spinning at night, as not everyone is enamoured of the new wheel, especially at night. As described by one of our regular readers, at night the wheel is ‘covered in bright light which flash non-stop between rotating rainbows and maybe even the US/UK/AUS flag (basically Union Jack colours), then just a random display of multiple colours.’ Our correspondent thinks it’s all a bit too ‘psychedelic’ and bright for Freo, and detracts from the Esplanade ambience defined by tall Norfolk pines and the nearby Fishing Boat Harbour. The answer? Said correspondent suggests it ‘would be cool if someone local could design the lighting sequence, instead of it being this out-of-the-box royal show style display.’ Here’s a daytime shot of the new wheel.
