Sharon Flindell, Curator and Producer, brings us up to date
We’re entering week 2 of Totally Lit today and the events keep coming.
All day Saturday 4 October at the Maritime Museum we will be hosting some of the most interesting conversations you’re likely to experience for a good while. The Quantum Words program, guest-curated for Totally Lit by science writer Jane McCredie, will explore subjects as diverse as Searching for Ourselves, The Science of Belief, and Under the Stars. I’m a huge fan of Jane’s curatorial skills – she has the vision to bring people with diverse knowledge and expertise together in shared conversations and this variety of perspectives triggers unexpected, truly interesting and thought-provoking events. I encourage everyone to take a look at the Quantum Words program and join us for the day – or pick the session(s) that interests you the most.

Walyalup Koort (or inside Fremantle Town Hall if it’s bucketing down) will be the place to be on Sunday 5 October when the Big Book Market fills the space with more than 20 authors and booksellers onsite. This will be a great opportunity for readers to discover a trove of new titles and writers as well as some great bargains.
Parents looking for new activities to keep their children entertained during the last week of the school holidays will find a wealth of fun activities at Totally Lit. On Sunday, visitPaper Bird | Children’s Books & Arts for a bilingual storytelling event in the morning and a book launch in the afternoon. Monday 6 October to Friday 10 October has the Totally Lit Trail – a treasure hunt through the streets of Fremantle to collect magnets that collectively form a beautiful illustration specially commissioned from Fremantle illustrator Frané Lessac.
There’s also Dancing with Words on Wednesday 8 October, avery special event bringing books and ballet together at The Brush Factory in East Fremantle, featuring children’s author Chenée Marrapodi and dancer Julie Moore – and finally Story Wheel on Friday 10 October: ride in the gondola for an exclusive story-time session on the Fremantle Wheel with some of WA’s wonderful children’s authors.
Writ Large will also be continuing to the end of the Festival. Wander down to Victoria Quay on any evening between now and 10 October to enjoy some tiny short stories writ large asflash fiction is projected onto the Fremantle Ports Administration Building.
Hope to see you around Fremantle during the week ahead!
