The impressive Japanese Icebreaker Shirase departed Fremantle today at 10am.
She recently arrived from Yokohoma, Japan and is on her way south to Antarctica.
If you’ve missed our earlier stories about the Shirase, including about her role, here’s our catch-up article.
Our Shipping Correspondent, Jean Hudson, was amongst many other of Shirase’s admirers waving Shirase goodbye at Fremantle’s Victoria Quay this morning.
We are sure she’ll be back before too long.
And here’s a photo-essay by Jean Hudson of Shirase’s morning departure.
別れ Wakare, Shirase. Farewell, until next time!
