Voices4Freo poised to enter the field

After a lot of chatter in recent years about independent candidates running against the established Labor Party MPs for Fremantle in both the State and Federal seats, Simone McGurk and Josh Wilson, it would appear there is actually a group of Freo folk who think the time is right to emulate the Federal Teals and the folk in the Federal South West seat of Forrest who have just announced a candidate through the Voices For community model of candidate selection.

In last Saturday’s print edition of the Fremantle Herald, and the earlier Friday digital version of the Herald, this advert appeared.

It’s not clear to us whether the Voices For Fremantle folk want candidates for both Freo seats, or just one or the other.

Interestingly, the Voices For Fremantle ad appeared immediately after this one from Josh Wilson promoting his good Freo standing, and also featuring fellow crayfish enthusiast, the aforementioned Simone McGurk.

Looks like things may be heating up as we get into election campaign modes for both the upcoming State and Federal elections.

If nothing else, all this activity should increase advertising revenue for The Herald over the next few months.

We look forward, here at the Shipping News, to soon learning the identity of the Voices For Fremantle candidate or candidates and keeping you abreast of all the political intrigues leading up to the elections, ad free!

Presumably an announcement will be made about the Voices candidate or candidates before too long as there’s only 4 months or so, maybe less, including the busy Christmas/New Year period, before we go to the polls.
