FREO TODAY

Freo Today. 1 March 2025. Instead of a pinch and a punch for the start of the month, what about a plunge into the ice instead, all for a good cause of course? It’s all happening at Leighton Beach. 640 plus folk are preparing themselves for the Ice Bath Challenge. They’re filling the baths with ice as we speak! Go for it! Nice pic by our Jean Hudson who is on the beach recording all the action.

Rarely A Dull Moment – Sign of the Times for Heritage, Roman Holiday, What’s Working, Things are in Motion

Many interesting topics to dive into this fortnight after the Ordinary Freo Council Meeting of Wednesday, 26 February 2025. Everything was up for grabs during Public Question Time: dog exercise areas, Mark Zuckerberg, overhanging tree branches, the Third Reich, feral foxes, toilets, even font size when it came to the Annual General Meeting! A raucous gallery at times. Explains why this meeting spanned nearly four hours. Bird – Film Review

There really are so many good films showing just now, it’s hard to keep up. Bird is another. You’ll want to see it. I saw Bird at a Luna preview quite recently. From the body art stills I’d been sent, and the little blurb I’d quickly read, I thought it wouldn’t be my cup of tea but maybe my movie buddy’s. After a bit I wondered why I’d bothered to come. Then a bit further on I had a sudden realisation I was loving it! I was just mesmerised. Nykiya Adams, who plays 12 year old Bailey, is something else.…

Ian Forsyth was born in Perth and enjoyed a forty-year career in international relations and economic policy before retiring from the Commonwealth Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in 2008. He served overseas as Australia’s Ambassador to the OECD in Paris; Ambassador to Turkey, Poland and the Czech Republic; Commercial Counsellor, Washington DC; and as an official in the OECD Secretariat in Paris.  Ian learned late in life that his family has some deep connections with Fremantle, including: a former convict, later a member of the Fremantle Town Trust; a mayor; a port pilot, harbour master, inaugural head of the…
