FREO TODAY

Freo Today. 6 October 2025. Waiting for the container freight train in Freo. Wonder just what the PREDICTOR is/does? Guess it’s something to do with ensuring that nearby level crossing booms and flashing lights work despite the train’s speed. Someone will know!

And they do!

Since first posting this Freo Today feature, Mickey Kordas, on our Facebook page, has kindly explained that ‘Level crossings must drop for a minimum time prior to the arrival of rail traffic, the predictors work to drop them within this time. These signs indicate to the driver the crossings are working in conjunction with a predictor and they have to keep a constant speed.’

Thanks a mil, Mickey.

Where’s Woylie?

Jean Hudson introduces you to the Woylies of Walyalup Go no further than Courthouse Lane in Fremantle, the lane that runs between Cassias and Moon & Mary and leads to the Old Courthouse Pub. In the Lane you will find 12 bronze Woylies sculptures. They sit on either side of the Lane and one peeps down from a rooftop. These bronze woylies are the work of artist Ben Jones.
