STS Young Endeavour Officially Arrives in Freo

Freo Today. 21 August 2025. Royal Australian Navy Sail Training Ship Young Endeavour arrived in Fremantle a couple weeks back – as we reported at the time – but this morning, at 10 am under a cloudy sky, she returned to Freo not so much with all guns blazing, as with all yard arms full crewed by a very happy, exuberant and tuneful even, Perth Youth Crew.
The Young Endeavour on this sail was under the command of Relief Commanding Officer, Commander Gavin Dawe OAM, and crewed by members of the Royal Australian Navy crew as well as the Perth Youth Crew, and had just completed an 11 day training sail out of Fremantle as far north as The Abrolhos Islands, spotting whales along the way!
The vessel is on a seven-month circumnavigation of Australia, out of Brisbane and back to Sydney, travelling as far north as Thursday Island and as far south as Albany. More than 300 young Australians aged 16-23 will have joined one of 14 training voyages by the time she returns to Sydney.
This will be the YE’s last Australian circumnavigation before it is replaced by a new, larger sail training vessel, currently under construction.
Matt Keough, Minister for Defence Personnel and Veteran’s Affairs, attended the official arrival in Freo this morning to congratulate the adventurous youth crew and RAN crew.
