Freo Today. 4 July 2024. American Independence Day. Ho hum. The Romans had an enduring festival called Saturnalia dedicated to the agricultural god Saturn which was held between the 17 and 23 December each year during the winter solstice. But all good things come to pass, and Saturnalia is enjoyed no longer. Mind you, Christmas seems to have replaced it. One wonders what will replace American Independence Day in due course following the decline and fall of the American Empire? In the meantime, we in Freo can keep on enjoying our wonderful laneway wall art!
