No National Guards, No Marines, No Handcuffs!

Freo Today. 13 June 2025. Occupy Wilson MP. A ruly bunch of climate and environmental activists this afternoon occupied the Fremantle electorate office of Josh Wilson MP, Assistant Minister in the Federal Albanese Labor Government for Climate Change and Energy, and Emergency Management. While the Federal Police called by to say hello and the Assistant Minister’s staff ensured the occupiers had a supply of acqua naturale to keep them from drying out, there wasn’t a National Guard, a Marine, or a set of handcuffs in sight. The Assistant Minister was no doubt annoyed to have missed the sit in, having a prior commitment in Melbourne. Organising occupier Kristen informed this masthead that ‘we had a lovely picnic occupation of Josh Wilson’s office today’ with a ‘very solid attendance & enviro-defender bonding with people from a broad range of groups.’ We gather when the conversation and water ran dry, the peaceful protest ended and all occupiers quietly left.
