Freo Today. 4 December 2024. Not just old and interesting folk to be found around Freo. Quite old and interesting things too. Like this skin press that Murray Slavin from Slavin Architects recently uncovered when cleaning out 3 Beach Street, Freo, ready for the St Pat’s hub redevelopment early in the new year. Murray says this skin press is the last remnant of the time the building was servicing the wool industry. He explains that, unfortunately, it must go as there is simply no room to keep it given its size and the quite heavy demand for clinical and other space in the new building. Murray would however love to ensure the skin press has a comfortable afterlife and would be pleased to see it find a new home – preferably in Fremantle, where, as he says, it belongs. If you would like to offer or suggest a good home for this wonderful piece of Freo history, please don’t hesitate to email our Editor without delay and we will put you in touch with Murray.
