It’s driving us crazy!

Freo Today. 2 September 2025. You’ve probably seen the iVac WA trucks and workmen working away alongside Mews Road in the Fishing Boat Harbour locality. The works seem to be going on and on. Must be driving businesses like Cicerello’s and Kailis crazy. It’s very difficult to find your way into the FBH area and if you do there’s a good deal of noise from the works. Not exactly sure what they are doing. And what is vacuum excavation all about anyway? Apparently it is used in road works because it’s safer, smarter, and far more precise than traditional digging methods. It’s said to be like swapping a sledgehammer for a scalpel—especially when working near buried utilities or in congested urban environments like Fremantle. It uses high-pressure water or air to loosen soil, then vacuums it up—no heavy machinery scraping blindly. As a result it minimizes the risk of damaging underground utilities like gas lines, water mains, or fibre optics. As interesting as vacuum excavating is, it would be nice to know just when these works will end. It’s driving us crazy!
