Freo Today. 27 August 2024. Not sure what the answer is, but the entrance to Fremantle CBD from the superb Fremantle Railway Station, across the road and south on Market Street is a little bleak. And has been for some time. The Pioneer Park and Spare Parts Theatre Co precinct seems to delight in being uninviting. On the other side of Market we have a closed shop or two. And on the other side of the street the old Freo Post Office is fenced off, closed and looking ready for the wrecker’s ball. All in all this entrance to Freo provides a less than salubrious welcome to our beloved Freo. As we say, not sure what the answer is – apart from: making Pioneer Park more parklike. Possibly removing Spare Parts or doing a major reno. And getting whoever holds the title to the old PO site to get stuck in and bring the building back to life.
