A little bit of WW2 on South Mole

FREO TODAY

Freo Today. 17 May 2024. Next time you go to South Mole, check out the remnants of the support structures for the WW2 anti-submarine boom gate. The boom gate became operational in December 1940. This buoyed wire net had a central gate that opened via a winch off North Mole. When raised enemy subs could not enter. It was lowered to allow authorised vessels to pass. Nice pic by Jean Hudson out in the recently reopened South Mole. Oh, and btw, don’t forget to Register for the upcoming Freo Ports information session on access to South Mole.
