Do you know about 1 Million Women? No? Sometimes spelt simply as 1MillionWomen. Well, look here and be amazed!
Local 1MillionWomen WA representative Wendy Wisniewski of East Fremantle recently travelled to Canberra to meet with Assistant Minister for Climate Change and Energy and MP for Fremantle, Josh Wilson, to present the organisation’s policy request to support home electrification and energy efficiency upgrades for at least a million households in the next term of government.

As you will have discovered from the above link, 1MillionWomen is a global movement of women who have committed to act on climate change in their households, workplaces, and communities.
1MillionWomen recently took a delegation to Canberra to meet with 24 Federal politicians across the political spectrum to present its policy request.
Their request was received very favourably covering ways government can support household batteries, rooftop solar for renters, social housing upgrades and a zero-interest loan scheme model as proposed by Rewiring Australia.
The meeting with Assistant Minister Wilson took place back in his Canberra office and reflects the Labor government’s intention to promote home electrification.

Wendy Wisniewski explained that –
The opportunities in Australia to lock in permanent reductions in household energy bills, while reducing air and climate pollution are exciting.
“The challenge lies in assisting those in rental properties and social housing to have access to rooftop solar and energy efficient upgrades.
Josh Wilson MP, a supporter of the 1MillionWomen initiative, said –
With housing accounting for about 25 per cent of electricity use and more than 10 per cent of emissions, improving home energy efficiency is a key element of the Albanese Government’s comprehensive plan to cut energy bills and reach net zero by 2050.
“Around 70 per cent of Australia’s 11 million existing homes are estimated to have an energy rating of three stars or lower and improving ratings from 3 to 5 stars could reduce the energy needed for heating and cooling by around 40 per cent.
“Through our programs like the $800 million Social Housing Energy Performance Initiative that is funding upgrades to 100,000 social housing tenancies, we are helping Australians to improve the energy efficiency of their homes – cutting energy bills, improving household health and comfort, while reducing emissions.
“In addition to boosting the energy efficiency and comfort of Australia’s housing stock, one of the Albanese Government’s first priorities under the $32 billion Homes for Australia plan is building 4,000 new homes specifically for women and children impacted by family and domestic violence and older women at risk of homelessness.
