The Phoenician Scheme – Movie Review

The Phoenician Scheme seems to have left quite a few viewers scratching their heads, but one supposes that’s part of its charm - or frustration, depending on how you look at it. Shippo (our AI companion) and I put our heads together after seeing the movie in preview last night courtesy of Luna Cinemas - me more negative than positive Shippo - to produce these two reviews! Positive Review: A Wes Anderson Triumph Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme is a dazzling return to form, blending his signature whimsical storytelling with a surprisingly poignant father-daughter dynamic. Benicio del Toro shines as…

Australia is forecast to fall 262,000 homes short of its housing target. We need bold action

Australia’s plan to build 1.2 million new homes by 2029 is in trouble. A new report by the National Housing Supply and Affordability Council (NHSAC) shows we are likely to miss this ambitious target by a huge margin. At the current pace, the council forecasts we will fall about 262,000 homes short of the goal. In other words, for every five homes we need, we’re only on track to build about four. No state or territory is building enough to meet its share. This is more than just a number; it means the housing affordability crisis will continue unless we…

Old Traffic Bridge Closed Wednesday Night

Main Roads WA have advised Fremantle Shipping News of two imminent traffic management events. 1. The closure of the Old Traffic Bridge overnight tomorrow night, 21 May 2025, from 7 pm. 2. Annoying lane works for 5 nights from Sunday, 25 May, where Marmion Street intersects with Stirling Highway. Here’s the detail. One assumes it’s Main Roads way of (un)subtly getting us all used to what’s to come in 2026. As we have reported recently, significant changes aka mayhem, are in store on the traffic route front from the beginning of 2026 for the best part of the year until…
